Celebrating International Women’s Day with Evirocor
Indian women – breaking shackles, in tryst with its glorious history
India is a land of brave women who have overcome insurmountable odds to become rulers and capable administrators over the centuries. Among the notable women rulers of India are Raziya Sulta, Rani Chennamma, Ahilya Bai Holkar, Begum Samru, and Rani Laxmi Bai. Women are breaking stereotypes in other fields as well, whether it’s Sania Mirza in tennis, Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu in badminton, Mary Kom in boxing, or Nandini Harinath, a rocket scientist from ISRO, India, who led India’s Mars Orbiter Mission, Maangalyaan.
A recent historical ruling by India’s Supreme Court grants women in the Indian Armed Forces the authority to hold command positions. This is regarded as a victory in the ongoing battle against stereotypes and patriarchy. As a result, we can now see courageous women serving and protecting our country and inspiring millions of little girls throughout India and around the world.
Poverty in India is one of the primary causes of women’s low literacy rates. As a result, women’s participation in the workforce was relatively low, but this has improved after the liberalization of the Indian economy in 1991. With the advent of foreign companies in India, slowly and gradually, females are entering the central workforce, which is a fantastic feat.
International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8th, is a global day that recognizes women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. The day also serves as a call to action for promoting women’s equality, empowerment and diversity.
Financial planning – a welcome step into a male domain
However, on this momentous day, let me raise a topic that needs attention. Across the globe, primarily men undertake the task of financial management and deal with financial planning, including planning for retirement. Women’s financial planning receives very little attention.
Young working women are typically less involved in retirement planning. The most common reasons given are a lack of experience in investing, deciding between various financial products, relying on the spouse, and so on. For women this is a massive niche market. As a result, wealth managers should seize this opportunity to provide step-by-step guidance for investing and encourage women to begin financial planning early.
To summarize, the previous culture of restricting financial discussions and investment decisions to male family members must fade away, and working women, in particular, should seriously contemplate doing their own financial planning with external help.
